Island Park and Memorial Day

This weekend we went to the cabin in Island Park. Unfortunately, I was negligent in my photo-taking, and don't have many pics to show for it.

Scott and Heidi had a drama awards ceremony for school on Saturday (on Memorial Day Weekend?), so Kim stayed with them and they all drove up Saturday night. The rest of us drove up Friday night and had dinner at Big Judd's.

On Saturday we went fishing in the new kids pond, which had no fish, then over to Mack's Inn, where there were lots of fish but we couldn't figure out how to catch them.

In the afternoon, we tried out Tanner's new shotgun on some clay pigeons, and then I did a fun gravel ride out through the Trude's Ranch area.

Sunday we went to church in the A-Frame, and then did a hike with Mom, Dad, and Leah's family, who had come up Saturday, and then a picnic in the back.

Monday morning Kim and I went for a run, then we went shooting (this time Scott could go), and then packed and drove home.

On the way home, there was a big traffic jam between Idaho Falls and Pocatello due to road construction. Kim and I were in the truck with the little girls, while the other kids were all in the van. The kids got started faster than we did (little girl delays), so they were several minutes ahead of us, but then google predicted a shortcut for us, which was quite a bit faster. While on the shortcut, the girls needed to use the restroom, so after the shortcut, we came on to the interstate about 3 cars behind the other kids. Within a minute or two, they texted us that the car was making a funny noise, so I pulled ahead of them and we got off almost immediately, in Pocatello at a Maverick. It turned out they had a (very) flat.

Scott and I went to an auto parts store to buy a plug kit (the gas stations didn't have them) and I plugged the tire while the kids ate. After inserting the plug, I had Tanner airing up the tire and he said, "What's that sound? It sounds like a popping noise." Meanwhile, I was looking at the bubbles on the sidewall and thinking, "that's not good", and then "BOOM!" the tired exploded in Tanner's face. He jumped back in a hurry!

So we put the donut on there -- which was harder than expected because the jack in the van was missing the lug-nut wrench (which also cranks the jack) and the jack in the truck didn't fit under the van. Anyway, we got it, and drove home a bit slowly. It made for a long drive home, but I was grateful that we were right there to help them when it went flat.

Kaitlyn wandered off and missed the family photo :(
