Camp Lynda Ends with a Bang!

I have obviously fallen behind on the blog lately. Too bad since it is really my only journal that I keep.

Anyhow, it has been a good backcountry ski season with several good trips. I have also managed a few days with the kids at the resorts.

Two weekends ago was Camp Lynda 2011. Three official days of fun in the sun, for me 2 days. Reed and I drove down Thursday night and rode Friday and Saturday, about 5 or 6 hours each day.

Temps in the 60s, blue sky, awesome trails and scenery. Who could ask for more?

I spent the last hour of Saturday following Lynda, MTB coach and route planner (along with Dave, I assume). I knew Lynda was fast, and I guess one expects a former Scottish MTB champion and recent 24 hour SS USA champ will be a great rider, but I must admit I was still impressed.

As for the rest of the riders, there was a great mix - lots of avid riders at various speeds, including a few fast ones to keep things interesting.

Many of the usual suspects showed up, although Revolution was under-represented. I spent the weekend with the pack of Mad Dogs

Camp Lynda: The Mob

The dogs put us up in a very nice kennel that had immediate access to the local riding, a pool, hot tub, etc.

By the end, our riding appetites were satiated and we were ready for a rest.

I needed to drive home Saturday night, and despite some fog near Fillmore, it was a quiet drive back. I had my headset on, chatting with Kim near Mona, when all of the sudden a deer appeared in front of me on the road.

I should have plowed right over the thing, but I swerved around the deer and unfortunately kept right on swerving. My thoughts went something like, "Ha I missed it ... Huh? Oops, back end is coming loose, I did think I swerved that hard ... uh oh, I'm going around ... this is going to be a crash."

Next thing I knew, I was landing upside down on the highway at about 80 MPH. The flip happened so fast I wasn't really even aware of it. The guy behind me said it looked like the car flew straight up into the air.

Crash! The top of the car crushed in several inches and I hit my head on the roof. Now I was hanging upside down in my seat belt, glass and dirt flying in over my face. I closed my eyes and bowed my down towards my lap away from the roof and debris. Scraaaaaape! As the car slid down the road on the roof and hood, I wondered if the car would hit anything or just slide to a stop.
