Snowbasin

I was registered to do the Laramie Enduro yesterday and was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, Doing that race involved traveling all day Friday, which was going to be fun as well, driving with Bp, Greg, and Bob, but work issues prevented an early end of the week and I was stuck here in SLC.

As a backup I decided to go ahead and enter the Intermountain Cup Snowbasin race. I had never ridden this course, but it turned out to be a fun course. It is not as much of a climbers course as best suits me, but it is nearly all single track, yet mostly wide enough to pass, plenty of winding terrain, and a lot of rocks to keep the mind on something more than just pedaling.

As we sat on the starting line before the race, Jason Sager was answering the rider next to him as he asked questions about Jasons wheels, which were carbon tubulars. "What do you do if you get a flat?"

Jason responded, "Um, I am a pro, so I just get a new bike." We knew what he meant, but it sounded pretty funny.

It was fortunate that the course was fun because it turned out to be a long race. I took 2:45, and I was only 3 minutes behind Jason Sager who won.

Kelli Emmett showed up for the pro womens race. It is always fun to have a big name at the ICUP races.

My race was pretty typical, but I felt good, especially as the race went on and I caught the groove of the rocks and the course. Several people blew up due to the length of the race combined with the rocky, dry conditions.

In the end I took 4th place, but only after a last turn incident with a Frolfing (Frisbee Golf) disk that hit me in the face after someone failed to throw it OVER the course. It was not all that bad, but it left a mark.
