Tooele Tri

Yesterday I rode the trails as the sun came up and then took the family out to Stansbury Park near Tooele for a Triathlon. Kim competed while I and the kids did a little fishing (unsuccessfully), spectating, and the kids did some riding.

Kim ran the Olympic distance, and felt like about a 5 out of 10, not lousy, but not great, either.

Some of the ICup MTB racers would have recognized one of the young women in the race: Erin Collins (and she did quite well, finishing 3rd overall). Apparently She has been out of state racing on scholarship for Lindsey Wilson College recently.

Erin is sponsored by Fezzari Bicycles, a new direct to consumer bike company operating out of Utah Valley. She had her HT MTB, her boyfriend's six inch bike, and of course her tri bike on display under a Fezzari tent. The bike models are all named after local landmarks like Nebo, Solitude, etc. Her XTR hardtail is all carbon and looks great, but it still weighs more than my Scalpel, which is a bit uninspiring. Must be the wheels, tires, etc. I notice the HT doesn't seem to be on their website, but they do not appear to be targeting the race MTB crowd anyway, instead offering good value bikes.

On a personal note, I've been coping with more allergy problems recently and it hasn't been a good training week, other than a solid 4.5 hour MTB ride Wednesday night. The congestion has led to a respiratory virus with a sore throat, achy muscles, and an ear ache. I'm looking forward to a decrease in the pollens!

The Draper race in scheduled for tomorrow. If it isn't raining we'll be there, at least for the kids race, and I'll race if I'm feeling significantly better. Here's hoping...
