The Marathon
I was supposed to be in Arizona this week doing the NOVA Norba Marathon race, but since it was cancelled (along with all the other marathons, I believe...go NORBA) and the XC is on Sunday this year, I did not go to Arizona.
Instead, I got up with plans to MTB in the dark. It took a while to get my lights and everything all set up, so by the time I was ready to leave it was almost 7 and I didn't really need the lights any more. Off they came, and off I went. Trails were pretty good, although I saw Ken Murdoch running who warned me upper Clarks was "super-muddy" so I avoided that. At the 1.5 hour point I was kind of sick of ridi
ng, mostly because it was cold and, while not dark, the sun wasn't above the mountains yet. Then the sun came out and I started feeling good. The morning was beautiful, and by the time I got home, I felt so good I decided to pull out the road bike and ride over Suncrest and up into Alpine past the rodeo. There I turned around and headed down down down, around the point and back to the house for an extra two hours. So, sort of a marathon, though not the pace I'd have done in a race. The picture here is from GoReedGo.com I'm surprisingly sore today.
