Super Sundance Super-D

With the season over, the question is, now what? I haven't had the burn-out issues this summer that I did last year, so I still wanted to do some more racing here and there.

Today was a Sundance Super-D. I've never done a Super-D before, but it sounded like fun so I thought I'd give it a go.

Before riding up the chair, I wanted to get a little warmup in so I rode up the bottom section of the course and then down it. There were some pretty serious drops and obstacles. Looking around, most of the other riders were on bigger bikes, and I was feeling pretty intimidated.

It turned out I had ridden sections of the downhill course, and ours was different. They staged us in 1 minute intervals from the top of Bay's lift (I think that was the name). We rode down under the Arrowhead lift and onto Archie's loop. We raced up some of this in the Intermountain Cup race.

I passed the guy that started 1 minute before me on Archie's, and was almost up to the next guy before the last downhill section, but he was faster through the switchbacks so I didn't pass him.

In the end I had the best time of the day and finally won a race this year, albeit a smaller, non-cross-country race. Kris Baughman from Go-Ride won second. He was probably quite a bit faster going down, but not as much of a peddler. I gather he is a super-fast downhill racer.

This was a really fun race with a great atmosphere. Perfect for a post-season good time.

Tonight I did some trail maintainence with the kids out behind the house. Mostly cleared sage where it is hanging into the trail. I need about 20 volunteers and we'd have it all cleared...
