Braindead in Brianhead

Brianhead was a fun trip except for the race.

Bp and I pre-road on Friday...it rained, was muddy, cold, I don't know. It just wasn't the fun it should have been.

Blogger's images aren't working. I'll try to add tomorrow maybe.

The kids spent all weekend on the Quads, and had great fun at it. So much fun, that Chris Sheppard (yep, that Sheppard) felt the need to warn us they were going to kill themselves. I was glad for the warning and we kept working on teaching them where extra caution is needed.

BTW, Sheppard seemed like a genuinely nice guy. It makes you think about how nice it would be if doping methods just hadn't been discovered, but of course that cat is out of the bag. I'm glad when cheaters get caught, but it seems like right now only the riders are expected to follow the rules. The information leaks, breaches of protcol, etc. are inexcusable, and should dealt with in the same manner a cheating rider is ... they are fired. Coaches too.

Anyhow, woke up Saturday with a headache and not rested. The pre-ride didn't feel too good, and I was unusually cold, so I opted to start with the vest, knee warmers, and arm-warmers. - I probably looked like a goof-ball as I was the only one so dressed up.

Going up the first climb I opened up the vest and rolled down the arm warmers, but I didn't feel especially hot. By the top of the first climb I was all dizzy. Altitude? Anyhow, the dizziness wasn't going away on the 15 minute descent, and the force wasn't with me. That downhill should be really fun, but I just wanted it to end and was worried I was going to crash from the dizziness. Got to the first feed, saw Ty H and Chad W spectating. They said they didn't have any testosterone so I decided to pull the plug. First DNF in two years or so. I wasn't a happy camper.
Did a recovery ride with Bp in the evening and felt pretty OK. The boys rode the quads while we rode. They would smoke us on the climbs, and then we'd smoke them on the descents.

On the way home Sunday we passed through a big brush fire about a mile south of Cove Fort. It was on both sides of the road and in the median. Fortunately, the emergency vehicles had not arrived yet, so the road was still open and we drove on through. Stopped at Cove Fort for gas, and saw a couple motorcyclists that had ridden through and got burned on their arms and faces...hot. They also smelled like a marshmallow that got too close to the flame. The one guy said it felt like bending over a camp-fire.

I've always wondered how fast the Element can go.

I bet faster than 95...
